According to statistics from the Israel Airports Authority (IAA), August 2017 saw over 2.5 million people passing through Ben Gurion Airport, reflecting an 18 percent increase on August of last year. This year is expected to set a record of more than 20 million passengers, a rise of 18 percent compared to 2016. The IAA has attributed this increase to the expansion of routes made available by low-cost airlines, which have flown over 1.5 million passengers to and from Israel, contributing 15 percent of all passenger traffic on international flights.
