1The Dave is the first hotel to open in a new line of urban properties from Brown Hotels. Located on Gordon St. in Tel Aviv, the building was previously occupied by the Gordon Inn hostel, which has since relocated to Ben Yehuda St. “The brand is being referred to as ‘Son of a Brown’ and is a younger in mind and heart property than other hotels in the portfolio,” says Daniel Rafman, general manager of the hotel. “The Dave is positioned as an affordable boutique, in line with our goal to make it accessible to the young urban market, but it still encompasses much of the Brown Hotels spirit, including a book shelf library in the public lobby and the same scent used in other properties.”
Furnishings across the hotel have been sourced and imported from flea markets and vintage stores in Holland and Amsterdam. “The design is more rebellious, easygoing and the hotel’s location is excellent, in close proximity to the beach, dining options and renowned nightlife of Tel Aviv,” explains Rafman.
The hotel has 35 rooms across four categories: Solo (14-15m²), Urban (18m²), Urban Plus (18m² and a balcony), and three Deluxe rooms (22-24m²). All rooms have a TV, fridge, mini bar, safe, parquet flooring, shower unit and vintage style bathroom tiling, and Deluxe rooms have an in-room bathtub and either a 1970s California King Bed with in-built radio, or a round bed. “Rooms are not your standard design, rather feature classic 1970s style, with unique objects and vibrant color schemes,” says Rafman. “We also offer Maapilim soaps in all bathrooms, a Tel Aviv-based cosmetics brand, which really syncs with our vibe.”
A back yard offers areas of seating, large antique table and the Honesty Bar, serving guests with evening drinks,; and the reception has a kiosk selling a range of snacks and other products. “Guests have the option to stay room only or they can book B&B and eat breakfast at one of two popular cafes in the area.” In addition, a rooftop lounging area, spa treatment room and Jacuzzi are due to open before the end of the year, and plans are in the works to open a tattoo shop beside the public lobby. “In line with the high level of service found at all Brown Hotels, our staff are focused on ensuring guests are happy and assisting with recommendations of places to visit, eat and experience in the city, as well as suggesting tours and sorting bookings,” says Rafman. “Our aim is to provide quality service in a fun, youthful environment.”
