The Mastercard company conducted an interesting and representative study that examined the most common recommendations given by Israelis to tourists, ranging from foods to try, places to visit, sights to see, to a few essential Hebrew words.
In the survey, 48% of respondents said the first slang word they teach tourists is: “Sababa” (which means everything is OK). “Achla” (meaning cool) comes in second place with 15% and is followed by “Yalla” (let’s go) with 13%. The phrase “a waste of time” (Haval al Hazman) came up in fourth place with 8% and “Balagan” (a whole lot of mess) with 6% in fifth place.
For the launch of priceless.com, ™ Mastercard came out with the unique campaign slogan: “Travel like a local. Priceless”. The campaign includes Israeli slang written in English which provides tourists with basic Hebrew words and phrases to help make their transitions into Israel and its culture as smooth as possible.
