Mitzpe Ramon, a quiet town perched on the dramatic cliffside of the Ramon Crater, is poised for a major transformation. Three new luxury hotels are being developed in a joint initiative by Africa Israel Hotels, the Geshem Group, and the Almog Group. These projects are set to turn this serene desert gem into a world-class tourism destination with nearly 1,500 new guest rooms.
The Ramon Crater, a unique geological formation known as an erosion cirque, was created over 220 million years ago when the area was covered by oceans. The upcoming five-star resorts will leverage this stunning natural backdrop, offering guests an unparalleled experience of luxury, tranquility, and breathtaking desert views.
VERT: Luxury on the Shadows Trail
The VERT hotel, operated by Africa Israel Hotels, will be built on a 9.4-acre plot and will feature 260 rooms, with an initial phase of 160 rooms. This includes 60 VIP rooms and 100 standard rooms, with a future plan to add 100 more.
Located directly on the Israel National Trail, this hotel is a perfect starting point for hiking enthusiasts. The resort will include a luxurious spa, multiple swimming pools, a business lounge, and a large amphitheater for events.
“This is an exceptional location in the heart of the desert, enabling us to offer a winning hospitality experience that combines luxury, tranquility, and breathtaking views,” said Sharon Alon, CEO of Africa Israel Hotels.
EDGE: Cliffside Views and Private Pools
The EDGE hotel, developed by the Geshem Group, will be situated on an 11-acre plot directly on the crater’s edge. The first phase will offer 142 rooms, with an expansion planned to bring the total to 260.
EDGE is designed for a variety of guests. It will include 20 family villas and a mix of double rooms, some of which will feature private ground-floor gardens and pools. Other rooms will offer personal rooftop pools and stargazing decks for a truly unique experience.
Guests can also look forward to a spacious 1,100-square-meter spa with indoor pools and an infinity pool overlooking the crater. A 1,000-square-meter restaurant and a modern conference center will also be part of this roughly $87 million project.
Almog Group’s Five-Star Retreat
The Almog Group is adding another luxury hotel to the lineup with 110 rooms. This hotel will feature an outdoor restaurant and a 1,000-square-meter commercial space that opens onto a beautiful scenic promenade.
The resort’s highlights include a conference hall, underground parking, and a large spa with an indoor pool and private pools that face a natural internal cliff. Select rooms will provide open views of the Ramon Crater, ensuring guests feel fully immersed in the natural beauty of the area.
